Frozen in Flight Taxidermy is conveniently located near I-95/I-64 in midtown Richmond, at 3300 West Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23230 USA.
We are at the corner of West Broad & McTavish, directly across the street from WTVR.
Our clients who live in the Richmond-Metro Area, including Ashland, Chester, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Mechanicsville, Petersburg and Powhatan can drop off and pick up their birds at our centrally located studio.
We provide pick-up/drop-off services for our bird taxidermy customers in the following areas: Arlington, Charlottesville, Chesapeake, Deltaville, Fredericksburg, Gloucester, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Petersburg, Suffolk, Urbana, Virginia Beach, Washington D.C., Whitestone, Williamsburg, Yorktown, the Eastern Shore, Northern Neck and Peninsula regions
as well as Maryland and North Carolina for which a small travel fee may apply .
All other specimens can easily be shipped to our facility , with the completed mounts shipped back to your door.
Custom mounts have been prepared for collectors from New York to the United Kingdom.
Bird Taxidermy Instructional Courses:
Frozen in Flight Taxidermy offers 3-5 day, one-on-one taxidermy classes taught by Rob Olson in his taxidermy studio, which is geared specifically for mounting birds.
You will learn how to mount a bird from A to Z, including basics of avian anatomy, reference, skinning/fleshing a bird, preparing the skin for mounting, carcass and eye measurements, making excelsior-wrapped mannequins, wiring, assembly, posing and taxiing of the skin. Beyond these basics, other topics such as molding and casting, altering pre-made foam mannequins, airbrushing and hand painting bills and feet, eyelid re-construction and habitat base making can be learned as well.
We will customize the class for you based on your experience and what topics you desire to learn. You can learn using your own birds or ones provided by the studio.
All materials, such as tools, are provided for, but you can bring your own tools if you'd like, and are encouraged to bring a notebook and pen.
